One would think that Merry should be far more concerned about being basically kidnapped from Middle Earth and put into this strange and new world -- but if they thought so then they clearly did not know the hobbit very well. Merry might not be one utterly interested in adventure but the curiosities here had awakened his interest -- not to mention he's already found new foods and drinks to try and he's sure there's more.
The curiosity of the train fascinates him and he's wide-eyed once it starts moving, watching the scenery pass. He hardly notices all the out of place interactions, though here they aren't necessarily out of place.
"How does this thing move so quickly?"
